Aldine ISD will welcome the 500 high school female students at the inaugural I Am Beautiful — Female Empowerment Summit at Davis High School on Saturday, March 2. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The free event will provide a full day of interactive workshop activities, panel discussions, and sessions that highlight building healthy relationships, increasing self-esteem, college and career readiness as well as health and wellness.
“This event is bringing together our community partners and invaluable network of female leaders in the community,” said Superintendent LaTonya M. Goffney. “Speakers will share their personal stories of failures, triumphs and resiliency that has ultimately led them to their professional passion and teach students how to be successful.
“We want young ladies to leave the summit empowered. We want them to dream big. We want them to aspire to make a positive impact in their community.”
Workshops will be led by speakers from the Houston area who are dedicated to improving the lives of young women. Event organizers include the District’s Guidance and Counseling Office and Young Ladies of Elegance (YLOE), which was started by Aldine ISD trustee Dr. Kimberley Booker.
High school counselors for grades 9-12 have invited special students that can benefit from the summit. The identified students received an invitation and registered online to confirm their attendance. In addition, the district asked neighbor Spring ISD to be a part and encouraged them to invite 250 students.
