Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney officially announced that Sheleah D. Reed has been named Chief Communications Officer for Aldine ISD. The announcement was made during the Board of Trustees meeting held December 19.
Reed, who came on board Dec. 5, heads the Communications Office where she is responsible for providing leadership, vision, direction and execution of major District communication programs, strategies, events and activities.
For more than 15 years, Reed’s work focused on branding, crisis communications and marketing. Reed has had stints at The Princeton Review, Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University and Spring ISD.
Prior to joining AISD, Reed was the strategic engagement and outreach officer in Business Operations at Houston ISD. Reed oversaw the communications efforts of the Business Services unit, which included four departments — Nutrition Services, Transportation, Facilities and Bond. Her responsibilities included strategic communications, increased internal communications, public relations campaigns, new marketing initiatives and partnerships.
Before advancing to her latest role with HISD she was general manager of strategic marketing and communications for Nutrition Services. She has previously served HISD as press secretary.
While working at Spring ISD, she provided leadership to the executive-level team in the development and implementation of SISD’s five-year strategic plan. The communications team she worked with earned state recognition for the work they did on the strategic plan, earning Best of Category during the 2016 TSPRA Star Awards.
Reed holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Prairie View A&M University and master’s degree in journalism and public relations from Texas Christian University. Reed also is an Accredited Public Relations practitioner. The APR is the PR industry’s only post-graduate certification program.
The native Houstonian is active in professional and civic organizations including the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) where she serves on the Nominating Committee. Reed, a public education advocate, is a Leadership ISD Harris County Fellow (Class 2018). In 2016, Reed made Prairie View A&M University’s inaugural class of 40 Under 40 alumni.
“Sheleah is a top strategic leader,” said Goffney. “She has a proven track record of communicating, marketing and branding. Her team leadership skills, work and expertise will be great assets as we continue to transform Aldine for the future and drive the Aldine brand.”
