Alumni from Carver High School’s Class of 1968 are preparing for their 50th reunion. As organizers planned, they decided to give back the community. They were especially interested in inspiring the soon-to-be grads of 2018. The alumni remembered their class president and valedictorian: Dr. James W. Lewis.
“Dr. Lewis grew up in the community,” said Lela Anderson, an alumna from the Class of 1968. “He was a model student in high school and is a successful Carver graduate.”
Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in mathematics. He has a master of business administration degree in finance from Texas A&M University. He pursued studies toward a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary. Lewis also earned a doctor of philosophy in religion at Duke University.
He spent time working as a certified public accountant before pursuing theology. His work in ministry has taken him across the country, including having served as the dean of the School of Theology at Anderson University in Indiana.
