Magnet Schools of America recently announced the winners of the 2018 Student Poster Contest. Two Aldine ISD students won the top awards in their events.
The contest forms part of National Magnet School Month celebrations. Each year, students have the option to express or interpret one of the magnet school pillars or all five.
Students compete in one of three levels: elementary, middle and high school level. Contestants have to adhere to the theme as well as provide a clear and concise message. They also have to show originality and organization as well as good use of color and design.
Sofia de León from Bethune Academy for Mathematics, Science and Fine Arts took home first place in the elementary school event. The fourth grade student’s art teacher is Brian Thompson.
In the high school event, 10th grader Barbara Villarreal from Carver High School for Engineering, Applied Technology and the Arts earned third place. Her art teacher is Matthew Kirkpatrick.
