Do you have training or experience in photography? Do you have a wish to try your hand at photography or showcase your best photo? Well here is an opportunity for you! The 2018 Staff Photo Contest seeks entries from professionals and weekenders who are passionate about photography.
This is open to all Aldine ISD employees. If you don’t think of yourself as a photographer, don’t worry! People take many great photos with cell phones and small action cameras every day, everywhere.
All entries must be created during the 2017-2018 school year and can be either black and white or color photographs. Entries can be taken with a cell phone, digital or DSLR camera.
The contest allows only one (1) entry per employee. The deadline to submit all entries is April 9, 2018.
Entries must be appropriate and reflect the community standards. Ideas for photo entries include travel, people, animals, scenery, and much more. The list of all the possibilities is huge.
What about images about your campus, events and/or program? Absolutely! There are no categories for the staff photography contest. Pictures could capture the spirit of camaraderie, collaboration, scholarship, critical thinking and FUN that is AISD! Possibilities include:
Minimal manipulation of digital images will be accepted. Photographs can have adjustments to the brightness, color, color balance, sharpness and contrast. Also acceptable: red eye removal and cropping.
The original photographer must submit his or her entry. By entering a submission, the participant is suggesting that the picture is original and has been taken solely by the contestant, and it does not infringe on another’s rights. Click on the Contest Rules document for detailed information.
All entries must be matted with a 2-inch black or white mat board and prints should be 8×10.
Fill out the Entry Form. Submit your matted photograph and Entry Form to the Office of the Director of Visual Arts by 4:30 p.m. April 9, 2018. Do not forget to include the artist statement, which is a general introduction to your work, a body of work, or a specific project. It should be no longer than 70 words.
The office is located at the Dr. Bamberg Resource and Staff Development Center (9999 Veterans Memorial Dr. • Houston, TX 77038)
The judges will choose the top three photographs. Criteria include a clear and interesting purpose and/or theme for the photograph; an exemplary model; unexpected elements. Judges will also look at craftsmanship such as a clear, focused photograph. They will look to see if the photo has a wide range of whites, grays and blacks or if colors are bright and vibrant. Other elements include composition, subject matter and elements of a story.
The winners will be announced at the Aldine ISD Film and Photography Festival on May 18 in the arena at M.O. Campbell (MOC) Educational Center, located at 1865 Aldine Bender Rd. The festival will start at 6 p.m.
The top three winners will receive trophies.
All the entries will be on exhibit at the MOC on May 18 during the festival. This will be on view to showcase the talent and diverse work and interests of the AISD community.
If you have any questions or would like to verify that your entry was received, please contact Dr. Michaelann Kelley at (281) 985-6421 or by email at [email protected]
