Trends, the journal of the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA), is published annually and is distributed to its members at the state conference.
Big Art Day is an art happening to raise awareness of art education and art as a creative force in our communities on a BIG statewide scale. It is an attempt by TAEA to engage all art educators, their students and communities in a single day art event.
TAEA highlighted some of the events from across the state in its 2017 Trends edition.
One of the events featured is from Carroll Academy. Art teacher Sarah Kersh centered the school’s project on fiber art.
According to Kersh, Carroll Academy students entering the art room on Big Art Day were given a needle and thread. Students in grades K-4 took part.
“The kids had a blast,” Kersh said. “They turned a huge blank burlap into a colorful and creative piece of art by the end of the day.”
The school displayed the artwork for everyone to see and enjoy.
