Student members of the Aviation Clubs in Aldine ISD recently met Sean D. Tucker. He is a world-renowned aerobatic pilot.
Aldine, Davis and Eisenhower high schools each have aviation clubs.
The Houston Aviation Club sponsors aviation events throughout the year for students. The first of these events took place at Ellington Field. Students received a special invitation to watch the Wings Over Houston Air Show practice run. Airport executives gave exclusive tours. And they provided opportunities to interact with pilots and other aviation professionals.
At a recent Houston Aviation Club event, one lucky student got the chance of a lifetime. Luphranz Louis from Davis High School was selected to fly on the 2 millionth Young Eagles® flight. Not only did he get to fly. He also got to fly with Sean D. Tucker who is well-known in the aviation world. Tucker is an inductee of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. He has also been named one of the 25 Living Legends of Flight by the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Tucker is also EAA’s newest Young Eagles chairman.
Luphranz is an 11th grade student. The aspiring mechanical engineer is currently a member of the National Technical Honor Society. He is also a member of the Technology Student Association at his campus.
According to Hasan Johnson, the Houston Aviation Club has provided many opportunities for students. Johnson is an aerospace engineering instructor. He teaches introduction to engineering design at Davis High School.
It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation.
