The Sallie Mae Fund has teamed with U.S. Congressman Gene Green. They will host a free college financial aid workshop on Monday, Feb. 8 at Aldine High School.
The presentation will provide essential information about how to apply for scholarships and financial aid.
This is also a great opportunity for those who also want to plan early for college.
“Financial barriers should never prevent students from pursuing higher education,“ said Green. “They should be able to achieve their goals. We have offered the workshop for more than 14 years. The community’s feedback is positive. The workshop equips families with the knowledge and resources to make college affordable.
“Many students have been the beneficiaries of scholarships during the event. This is just one more resource we hope to empower them with. There are many resources out there. But we understand there are still challenges for working families. And especially those with first generation college students. That’s why we will continue to work to expand the Pell Grant program. We want to make college a reality for our students here at home.”
Representatives from the U.S. Military Service Academies as well as local colleges and universities will be present with information about their institutions. They will be available to speak to students one-on-one.
The workshop will run from 7-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Aldine High School, 11101 Airline Drive.
