Aldine ISD’s EC/Pre-K Centers were named winners of H-E-B’s Excellence in Education Early Childhood Award. The announcement was made on Sunday, May 3 during the 14th annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards banquet held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Austin.Aldine Area Superintendent Dr. Linda Rodriguez and the eight district EC/Pre K Center Principals were on hand for the announcement. Principals include, Maria Galindo, DeSantiago EC/Pre K, Juan Santos, Garcia-Leza EC/Pre K, Sandra Arredondo, Hinojosa EC/Pre K, Gladys Moton, Jones EC/Pre K, Michelle Burke, Keeble EC/Pre K, Deborah Hagood, Kujawa EC/PreK, Linda Reed, Vines EC/Pre K.
H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt personally handed AISD’s EC/Pre-K Center a $25,000 check for winning the inaugural Early Childhood Award.
Dr. Rodriguez accepted the award on behalf of the district.
“We create environments that enhance the development of the whole child,” she said after receiving the award.
Sir Ken Robinson delivered the keynote address to a ballroom packed with hundreds of educators, elected officials, community leaders and H-E-B employees. Robinson is an internationally recognized authority in creativity and innovation in education and business, and is best known for his famous TED talks seen by an estimated 300 people in more than 150 countries.
H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. It has become the largest monetary program for educators in the state, spotlighting best practices and celebrating the passion and creativity of Texas educators.
H-E-B asks customers, employees and community members to nominate teachers, principals, districts, early childhood facilities and school boards in Texas. Each nominee is sent an invitation to complete an application online and is asked about their professional experiences, educational philosophies and achievements both in and out of the classroom.
A team of judges reviews the applications, narrowing the field to semi-finalists. Aldine ISD’s EC/Pre-K early childhood program was one of five semi-finalist.
