More than 800 Calvert Elementary School students received a bike from Elves & More Saturday, December 14. The charity partnered with the school to provide students with an incentive to do well in class. To earn a bicycle, each student signed a contract in which they had to meet their reading fluency goal as well as maintain good attendance and behavior.
Elves & More provided 50 volunteers from various organizations to help organize the event at the campus. The Harris County Medical Society Alliance provided each of the bicycle recipients with a helmet. The Texas Medical Association’s Hard Hats for Little Heads bicycle helmet giveaway program provides free bicycle helmets to children across Texas. For instance, they start by providing free helmets to go along with the ones a person or organization purchases. The program aims to reduce brain injuries and encourage kids to exercise.
Below are some images from the event.
