According to Sarita Salinas, performing arts chair at the magnet campus, the Carver dance students reimagined the story to give it a new twist. The new version provides an exciting adventure for everyone to enjoy.
Salinas provided a synopsis of the story below:
On a dark, stormy night 20 miles off the coast of Africa, a young British family finds themselves in a struggle for survival as their boat is tossed about by the raging sea. Both the young father and mother perish in the storm before their boat runs aground on the Dark Continent. Miraculously, the faint sounds of a young baby girl crying out for her parents can be heard from the wreckage. Hearing the plaintive cries for help, Kala the gorilla runs to the aid of the newly orphaned infant. After fighting off Diablo, the fierce leopard responsible for the death of her own child, and against the wishes of her husband and tribal ape leader, Baboo, Kala decides to leave her tribe to raise the young human as her own.
As the years pass, Tyree learns the gorilla ways of living in the jungle, climbing trees and flying across vines with the strength and spirit that would make any ape proud. Eventually, Baboo agrees to make Tyree part of the tribe, and she becomes the friend and protector of many different animals throughout the jungle.
Tyree’s world is turned upside down when Jane Porter and a team of archeologists visit the jungle. What hidden motive brings them to the jungle? Can these people be trusted? To which family does Tyree really belong? With Jane’s friendship, Tyree comes full circle and learns what truly matters in life.
