The Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST) for 2011 rated Aldine ISD as one of the most efficient school districts in the state while four AISD campuses achieved Texas Honors Circle designation.
The FAST report examined both school finances and student progress to evaluate the effectiveness of educational spending. In conjunction with expert consultants from the University of Texas at Dallas, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin, the FAST research team developed the FAST rating, a one- to five-star measure incorporating an academic progress rating and a spending index.
The FAST rating allows for fair and meaningful comparisons among Texas school districts and campuses. The rating is a simple average of an academic component (the FAST composite academic progress score) and a financial component (the FAST spending index).
On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best rating possible, Aldine ISD’s efficiency rating was 4.5 stars for a second year on a row. The FAST report for Aldine ISD shows that the district had a total enrollment of 62,532 students in 2010-2011 and a composite progress percentile of 84. The rating indicates AISD has a strong academic performance while maintaining a “Low” spending index.
AISD also had several campuses achieve Texas Honors Circle designation. Like the rating system used for the district level, campuses are also rated using a one- to five-star scale. The Texas Honors Circle recognizes campuses that have achieved superior student academic growth while keeping spending low. To achieve Texas Honors Circle designation, an elementary campus must have a five-star FAST rating, while middle and high schools must attain a rating of at least 4.5 stars. Middle and high schools have a slightly lower threshold because they are less likely than elementary schools to achieve high academic progress scores.
The four Aldine ISD campuses to achieve Texas Honors Circle designation are Houston Academy, MacArthur Ninth Grade School, Parker Intermediate School, and Spence Elementary School.
